Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez works out in heels in Congress: for vanguard news ,
‘I beg you, challenge Trump to a push-up contest’ Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg isn’t the only Washington, D.C. bigwig who like to get physical. The same week that RBG fans marked the Supreme Court justice’s 86th birthday by doing her signature planks, freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez squeezed in some exercise of her own.
“Y’all work too much,” an observer jokes of the D.C. workout session, but according to Ocasio-Cortez’s caption, the politicians were blowing off some steam during a break from hearings.
“I admit, sometimes hearings get a little boring,” she wrote. “We had a recess and I needed to get my head back in the game, so Rep. Jimmy Gomez and I did some push-ups to get the blood pumping. (Don’t judge me, I def fell off the workout wagon and am trying to get back on again.)”
Like most things the Bronx native does, the mini workout is being praised by supporters and blasted by detractors.
“Upper-body strength is SO IMPORTANT for fighting the patriarchy!” wrote a fan. “In heels? I’m impressed,” read another comment.
“Wow. That’s more push-ups than POTUS can do,” one commenter wrote, while another had this suggestion: “Oh please, I beg you, challenge Trump to a push-up contest for his wall funding.”
“Women doing everything better in heels 2K19 I’m freaking out,” another comment read.
But others picked apart both her politics and her push-up technique, or accused her of not showing proper decorum.
“If only her grasp of economics was as good as her push-ups,” a critic responded. “And they were pretty poor pushups.
“Nothing but dignity in the new Congress,” fumed another. “Regular office workers would get disciplined for that one.”
