James Harden tied Kobe Bryant’s streak for vanguard sports

James Harden tied Kobe Bryant’s streak for vanguard sports , shot record 1-of-17 from 3 in loss to Magic .

James Harden hit two historical marks on Sunday night. One of them, though, he’d like to forget.

Harden dropped 38 points in the Houston Rockets’ 116-109 loss to the Orlando Magic, tying Kobe Bryant’s insane run of 16 straight games where he scored 30 or more points from the 2002-03 season.

The 29-year-old, though, shot just 1-of-17 from the 3-point line — tying the most 3-point misses in a game in NBA history. His only make came just before halftime. The rest, well, didn’t go his way. He was just 1-of-9 from behind the arc in the first half, too — though he still nearly had a triple-double by halftime, entering the locker room with 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

The last person to miss 16 3-pointers in a game was Damon Stoudamire, who went 5-of-21 in 2005.

While the Rockets led through most of the game at the Amway Center in Orlando — even building up a 12-point lead in the first half — a huge 16-2 run late in the fourth quarter pushed the Magic ahead to the seven-point win.

The reigning league MVP finished with 38 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in the loss — just the Rockets’ fourth in their last 17 games. He also went 15-of-16 from the free throw line,

Which is how he was able to still score nearly 40 points despite his horrendous night from behind the arc. Throughout his last 15 games, Harden has averaged a ridiculous 40.5 points,  9.5 assists and 7.3 rebounds. He’s averaged 15 3-point attempts through that same stretch, and averaging nearly 41 percent from that range, too.

Austin Rivers added 25 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the field, and center Clint Capela put up 17 points.

Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic each dropped 22 points for the Magic, and Evan Fournier was close behind with 19 points of his own.
